  1. It's hard to determine whether or not social networking is indeed a fad or a "revolution," as the video claims it is. The advancements of the technology these days are incredibly intimidating in the sense that computers are getting smarter and smarter each day.

  2. I wouldn't exactly call Social Media a revolution, because that implies something started it all and from there it has grown significantly.
I would say it is a fad, because humans since the beginning of time have been looking to find new ways to make communication between each other easier, whether it be roads, the printing press, or facebook. Our modern social media is just a progression of a fad that is prominent in human history.

  3. I consider it a revolution because people are becoming more and more dependent on technology everyday.

  4. When MySpace became popular, I thought it was a fad. When I graduated from college and heard about this thing called Facebook, I thought it was a fad. When my dad joined Facebook, I realized it's a revolution. My cousins stay in touch almost solely by facebook. I think that any particular site may be a fad, but the movement seems to be here to stay.

  5. It's sometimes hard to tell how influential social media has become, because all of these incredible changes have occured during my lifetime. When the video brought out all of those statistics, it became clear that social media has changed the world right under my nose.

  6. Revolution - an overthrow or repudiation and the thorough replacement of an established government or political system by the people governed.
Fad - a temporary fashion, notion, manner of conduct, etc., esp. one followed enthusiastically by a group.

As you can see from the definitions, social media is not a fad because it is definitely not temporary. It is something that has developed very quickly throughout the years and is here to stay to evolve even more. Therefore, social media is indeed a revolution and the video presents this by showing all of the most popular social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Bebo, Digg, YouTube, Wikipeida, etc., and how each site has grown.

  7. I found that the video was very meaningful in the way that it had many facts I never knew. Like over 100million users are on facebook. I never thought of these things as a reveolution but more as something people use to talk to each other.

  8. A revolution like that of the industrial revolution changed communities, built cities and suburbs, established a secure public education system, gave rise to new inventions and required people to learn new skills. The social media revolution is not a fad, I agree with Zack, it is not temporary. I believe it is creating communities (albeit online) and sites like "Second Life" are building "virtual" cities. Public education will have "restart" and completely alter it's approaches to teaching people how to become productive citizens. It has already given rise to new "inventions" or ways of doing things and it is requiring people learn new skills in order to work or stay in business. It is here to stay, like Michelle said, and I agree the sites we see will change or die out - just like new technologies emerged to make production lines better.
